Where did the Procedures and Examples Go?

Unread post by moderator »

As most of you know, RATS ships with hundreds of procedures, example programs, and documentation files in PDF format.

These include a core collection of more than 80 example programs and more than 200 procedures, sub-directories containing worked examples from over twenty popular econometric textbooks, replication programs for more than 40 key econometric papers, and PDF files listing all of the above (as well as PDF versions of the printed manuals and other supplemental information).

Due to security restrictions imposed on the "Program Files" directory structure in recent versions of Windows, we no longer install these example, procedure, and PDF files in that directory. Instead, these are installed in a "WinRATS x.xx" or "WinRATS Pro x.xx" sub-directory of your "My Documents" or "Documents" folder (which you have will vary depending on which version of Windows you use).

This subdirectory should be set as the default user directory when RATS is first installed, so if you start RATS and do File-Open, you should be able to see the standard examples and procedures, as well as the subdirectories with the textbook and paper replication examples. You can use File-Preferences... to make this your default directory if it is not already.

So, if you were looking in the "\Program Files\Estima\WinRATS x.xx" folder and surprised not to find the examples and procedures there, rest assured that the files are still provided--they are just a new user location.
