Installing RATS (if not already done)

For Windows Users

If you downloaded the software, it’s in a single installer file (.msi extension) which just needs to be opened or double-clicked to install the software. Follow the instructions displayed on your screen to install RATS on your computer. If you need a serial number to install the software (the time-limited trial and classroom licenses don't, all others do), it will be on your invoice (SN:xxxxxx) or license agreement.

The Windows installer will give you options as to where to install the software and the various supporting items, such as the examples and documentation. See "Where to Find It (Windows)" for the standard locations.

You will most likely then need to activate the software. The trial version requires activation before any use, while licensed versions will run for 24 hours before requiring activation.

For Macintosh Users

RATS is distributed as a zipped installer file. Open the zip (it may be done automatically by your browser) and double-click on the installer package to install the software. Note that the security for the Mac installer has become increasingly strict for software that is not downloaded from the Mac Store. As a result, you may have to change the security settings on your Mac:

The Macintosh installer is quite a bit stricter than Windows about where software and documentation gets installed. See "Where to Find It (Macintosh)".

You will most likely then need to activate the software. The trial version requires activation before any use, while licensed versions will run for 24 hours before requiring activation.

For UNIX/Linux Users

Please see the UNIX RATS installation guide included with your software.
