Selecting Items from a Window

Home Page

← Previous Next →

Many of the tasks in WinTD require you to select one or more items from a window before choosing a menu operation to apply to those items. For example, you must select one or more sections from a Sections Window before you can pair a round.

The following procedures can be used to select an item or set of items from a window.

Using the Mouse

1.Clicking anywhere on a line will select that item, and deselect all other items.

2.Holding down the <Shift> key and clicking on an item will select all items between the last cursor position and the line you clicked. This includes the lines at both the previous and current cursor positions. This deselects any items that do not lie in this range.

3.Holding down the <Ctrl> key and clicking on a line will select that item without deselecting any other selected items.

4.To select more than one block of items, do the following:

a.Click on the first line in the first block.

b.<Shift>+click on the last line in the first block.

c.<Ctrl>+click on the first line of the second block.

d.<Ctrl>+<Shift>+click on the last line of the second block.

Repeat steps (c) and (d) to select additional blocks.

5.Hitting <Esc> clears all the selections.

Using the Keyboard

1.Pressing the space bar selects or deselects the current line.

2.Holding down the <Shift> key while using the cursor keys (<Home>,<End>, <PgUp>,<PgDn> + arrow keys) will select (or deselect) all the items between the previous cursor position and the new cursor position.

3.Choosing the Edit⎯Select All menu operation.

4.Hitting <Esc> clears all the selections (de-selects all items).

Note that you can combine the keyboard and mouse methods freely. For example, you could select a range with the mouse, and then use the space bar to select some additional items.
