RATS 10.1
RATS 10.1

RATS displays graphs you create (or load into memory from a file) in a graph window. These operate like other windows in RATS, except that they are only used for displaying graphs. Graph windows make it easy to print or save graphs, or change the size and appearance of the graph.

By default, RATS will displays each new graph in its own graph window, which allows you to view several graphs simultaneously. If you prefer, you can tell RATS to use just one graph window (with the Preferences... operation). In that case, RATS will display all graphs in the same graph window. Each new graph you generate or load will replace the previous graph.

You can control the proportions of the graph by resizing the graph window and "fixing" the graph with those proportions using the "Fix" toolbar  (see Graph Proportions for details). You can use the "black and white/color" icon  to switch between color and grayscale display modes.

The title bar of a graph window will display:

the title you assign using the WINDOW option on GRAPH or SCATTER, or

the text you supply for the HEADER or FOOTER option if used, if no WINDOW option is used, or

a title assigned by RATS if none of those options are used, or

the name of the graph file, if the graph was read in from a file using the File—Open... operation.

Printing a graph

To print a graph, just make the desired graph window active (see Windows) and select the File—Print operation or click on the .

Saving a graph

To save a graph, make the desired graph window active and select the File—Save As... or File—Export... operation or click on the . This brings up a standard file selection dialog box, allowing you to specify a drive, directory, and name for the file.

You can save graphs in the standard "RGF" (RATS Graphic Format), or in a variety of other file formats. The file format is controlled by the setting in the Save File as Type: field in the Save As... dialog box. See Graphics File Formats for details.

Loading a graph from disk

To load a graph saved in "RGF" format back into RATS, choose File—Open... operation, choose "RATS Graphics (*.RGF)" in the file type dropdown and select the desired file. The graph stored on the file will be displayed in a graph window.

Clicking on the left (black and white) icon switches the graph display from color mode to black and white mode, allowing you to see how the graph will look when output to a black and white device. Line styles, patterns, and symbols will switch to the corresponding black and white styles. The appearance is the same as you would get if you use the PATTERNS option on the graphing command. When the graph is in black and white mode, the toolbar icon will switch to the right be in color, indicating that clicking on it switches back to color mode.
