How To: Compute Post-tournament Ratings |
Use the following steps to compute approximate post-tournament ratings:
1.Select the section(s) for which you want to compute post-event ratings.
2.Do the Section>Compute Approx Ratings operation. This will ask you which Rating Formula you want to use. Your choices are US Chess, FIDE and 2P. If there are any unrated players in the section, you will also be asked to assign a pre-tournament average rating for the unrated players. WinTD comes up with a suggested value based upon the performances of unrated players against rated players. However, you might want to override this if you want to mimic the behavior of a particular rating system. How this number is used is described in the Rating Formulas topic
3.To see the computed ratings, you'll need to display a Players Window that includes the "Post Rate" field. To do that, just open a Players Window and do Edit>Change Layout. In the Change Layout dialog box, add the "Post Rate" field to the "Current" list and click on OK (you may want to use Move Up and Move Down to adjust the ordering of the fields).
Notes
•The computed ratings are not stored in the tournament file (or anywhere else), so if you close the tournament file and then want to see the post-tournament ratings again, you'll need to repeat the steps above to compute and display them.
•Even if all the ratings being used are completely up-to-date, there are always factors which affect the official rating calculations which aren't going to be known to the TD. That's why these are described as approximate.
