How To: Update Players' USCF Ratings |
If you have downloaded the US Chess Database, you can automatically update the ratings and expiration dates on your Master Player file or on a tournament file. Use the following steps:
1.For a master file, just open the master player file that you wish to update. For a tournament file, open the tournament and display a players window.
2.Choose the US Chess>Update From Database menu item. The first time that you access the database after downloading or updating it, WinTD will take a bit of time to rebuild its indexes.
3.(For the Master Player File), use the File>Save operation.
If you have more than one master file, close the first, and repeat the steps.
Notes
•WinTD searches for update information based upon the player's US Chess ID. If the name on the master file does not seem to match the name on the supplement (the program tests the first two characters), you will get a warning and WinTD will give you the option to update or not. It may simply be that either you or the US Chess has a typo in the name, but you may also have an incorrect ID. If the problem isn't obvious, click No and go back and figure out what's wrong.
•In addition to ratings, this operation will also change state codes to match that on the US Chess database, and expiration dates. However, if your records show an expiration date later than that on the database file (perhaps you've verified that the player has updated recently), your expiration date will be retained.
•If the player has a FIDE ID and federation information (which are both available for many players on the US Chess database), those will be copied as well. If you have an non-zero FIDE ID and it conflicts with the US Chess version of the FIDE ID, you will be warned, and your existing one will be retained. If this happens, you should double-check which is correct. Note that it does not change FIDE ratings. Updating FIDE ratings requires a separate operation.
