How To: Use Master Files for Team Tournaments

Home Page

← Previous Next →

When you are working with Team Tournaments, you can put both the team information and individual player information on a single master file. However, this does not save the team's lineup. That, you will have to rebuild for each tournament. For convenience, use a single "team ID" to identify the team and its players. If you sort the master file by "team", it will always list the records which are actually teams before any of the individuals. (The Edit>Change Common Info menu operation can be very helpful in making large scale changes to team ID's).

To copy team information from a master file to a new tournament, first open a Players Window for the target section. Then, drag the team record from the master player window and drop it anywhere on the Players Window. Finally, select and drag the team's players for this tournament and drop them onto the team's line in the Player Window (that is, put the cursor directly over the team name in the Players Window and then release the mouse button).

If the section is set to have the team play in rating order, WinTD will automatically order the players. If the team is not required to play in rating order, the players will be initially ordered based upon the order in which you selected the players in the master file. If you need to reset the ordering, just double click on the team's name in the Player Window in the target section and use the Team Roster tab on the Add/Edit a Player dialog.

When you drag a team entry from a Player Window to a Master Player Window, WinTD will copy not just the team itself, but also the individuals assigned to it (as separate records). If the team had a "Team ID" set, WinTD will also assign that to all its individuals. That will make it easier to keep them together in the master file.
