Load OECD databank and Bundesbank data

Unread post by Gilbril »

Dear Tom, thanks for your help. I wanted to load the OECD MEI database via the data/graphics menu. The two files aggoecd.rat and allcountries.rat are downloaded. However they are empty and no series are included. What is the mistake?

I also tried to download series from the Bundesbank Website via:
open data "http://www.bundesbank.de/cae/servlet/St ... v&mode=its"
data(format=cdf,nolabels,org=col,skiplines=5,left=2,right=2) 1991:1 * neword

But rats tell me can't open page Couldn't resolve host Name.

What is the problem here?

You may have a typo in the Bundesbank access name. If I download that, I get:

Die Zeitreihe BBDE1.M.DE.Y.BAA1.A2P000000.G.C.I10.A ist nicht gültig oder nicht vorhanden.

I'll have to see why it's not very good at handling the empty data.

The OECD download seemed to have been fine when I did it a few weeks ago (AGGOECD is about 4Mb and ALLOECD is 82Mb). Those are the last two files created if I remember correctly, so perhaps something interrupted the process.

Hello,

the Bundesbank has reset the base year of the index from 2010 to 2015 and therefore, the new mnemonic is BBDE1.M.DE.Y.BAA1.A2P000000.G.C.I15.A. However this is not the ticker symbol for new orders but manufacturing production. After replacing the ticker symbol in the URL, the download should work. I had retrieved the data for new orders and industrial production last Friday without any problem.

Best regards

I simply took your URL and fed it into a browser to get that result. (It produces a one-line "CSV" file with the error message).

Dear Tom,

I just tried the URL http://www.bundesbank.de/cae/servlet/St ... 0000.G.C.I15.A&its_csvFormat=en&its_fileFormat=csv&mode=its in a browser and could download the csv file containing the data for the industrial production index. Notice, there had been a change at the end of the ticker symbol, which is highlighted in red.

Code: Select all

calendar(M) 1991:1

open data "http://www.bundesbank.de/cae/servlet/StatisticDownload?tsId=BBDE1.M.DE.Y.BAA1.A2P000000.G.C.I15.A&its_csvFormat=en&its_fileFormat=csv&mode=its"
data(format=cdf,nolabels,org=col,skiplines=5,left=2,right=2) 1991:1 * ip
This code lines also read the ip data correctly from the Bundesbank server.
Best regards

Yes. I had no problem with the few code lines.

For retrieving data from a webserver for the first time, it is recommenced to check first if the symbol and the URL have not changed. Sometimes the provider made changes. In the case of the Bundesbank it has been a modification of the ticker symbol after altering the base year of the index.
