VAR Forecasts- Plotting Actuals and Forecasted Values

Unread post by allister »

Hi Tom

I trust that this question is readily answerable and doable. I am doing a forecast with a VAR model and I would like to know how to plot actual versus forecasted values together in a single graph to track how closely the forecasted values track the actual data points?

Thanks in advance for your response and your help.

I'm confused. Wouldn't you just do a GRAPH instruction with the actuals and the forecasts? Are you thinking about something much different from that?

See, for instance, the Lutkepohl example LUTKP098.rpf. That does actual, forecast, upper and lower bounds for several series. Now that's for out-of-sample forecasts, but you could do the same basic graphs with the forecasts done in-sample so the actual overlaps range with the forecasts.
