Controlling tick marks on x-axis.

Is there any option similar to vticks that can limit the number of ticks on the X-axis?

X-axis or time axis? SCATTER and GCONTOUR have the same types of options for controlling the X axis as for the Y axis. The control on the time axis on GRAPH is more limited since it is based upon discrete dates, not continuous values---XLABELS is the only complete override for that, and that probably only makes sense if you're graphing something where the entries don't actually represent time, but are grid points.
