How to: Coordinate Tournament and Master Player Data

If you are maintaining Master Player Files, you will need a system for updating the master file using the entries and results of your tournaments. The main operations for this are:

Players>Coordinate with Master File

Players>Update from Master File

Master(Player)>Update From Tournament

Players>Coordinate with Master File

This is used when new players go straight into the tournament and you need to add them from the tournament to the master file. You have to open your master file and then open a Players Window of players from the tournament. (Since this is likely to be done for the full tournament, the Section>List Players-Combined Sections is probably the best choice).

Players>Coordinate with Master File then uses the current Players Window and the current Master Player Window and filters out all players from the Players Window who are already included in the master file, leaving only players who either aren't in the master, or whose information is sufficiently different on the tournament and master files that some correction needs to be made. You can drag and drop the new players into the master file, and spot problem records quickly.

Players>Update From Master File

This uses the players in the current Player Window (all, not just the selected ones), and the current Master Player window. If the player has a record on the master file (coordinating on the ID first, and the name if that isn't available), information is copied from the master file to the player record. Which information is copied is chosen in the dialog shown below:

This allows you to start to put entries into a tournament file before, for instance, a master file has been fully updated with the results from previous tournaments. (You might choose to update the Name if the tournament entries have the US Chess or FIDE name, but your master file has players' preferred names).

Master(Player)>Update From Tournament

This updates the local ratings (only) from the results of the tournament. This runs through all the sections in the current tournament.
