Getting Started / Getting Started: The WinTD Interface / Master Player Windows |
Master Player Windows display a list of all the players stored on a Master Player File. Here is a sample window:

Description
This window shows each player's name, ID, expiration date, state, prize group, Team affiliation (if any), and rating. Cells for which information is not available are left blank. You can use the Edit>Change Layout operation to customize the appearance of Master Player Windows.
From a Master Player Window, you can add players to a tournament, view or edit player information, add new players, and update ratings from the US Chess database or FIDE database.
Opening a Master Player Window
To open an existing master player file, select Master(Player)>Open Master List... or use Master(Player)>New Master List... to create a new file.
Double Clicking
Double-clicking on a player brings up the Add/Edit a Player dialog box, which allows you to edit the information for that player.
Menu Operations
Most of the operations on the Master(Player) menu are only available when a Master Player Window is active.
Drag and Drop
Drag-and-drop is enabled for Master Player Windows:
•You can enter players in a tournament section by dragging players from the Master Player Window and dropping them on a tournament Players Window, or dropping them onto a section line in the Sections Window.
•You can copy players from one master file to another by dragging-and-dropping players from one Master Player Window to another.
•You can copy players from a tournament to a master player file by dragging from a tournament Players Window and dropping on a Master Players Window.
•You can add players to a team in a team vs team tournament by dragging players from a Master Player Window and dropping them on their team's name in a tournament Players Window.
Keystrokes
In addition to the standard cursor controls, if the window is sorted by name or by team (you can change the sort order with the Change Layout dialog box or with the "Name" or "Team" toolbar buttons described below), typing in letters will cause a search for the first name (or team) that begins with the characters typed. For instance, if you type in "JO", the window will be positioned at the first name that start with JO (case is ignored). If you start to look for Johnson, and realize that you really wanted Smith, hit <Esc> (or click the mouse) to clear the keystroke buffer before you start to type SM.... Otherwise, WinTD will just keep adding letters to your old search string.

Export
You can use the File>Export operation to export information from a master player window to a new file in comma- or tab-delimited text, WKS, Excel (XLS or XLSX) or HTML formats.
Cut/Copy/Paste/Clear
Edit>Cut or Edit>Clear will remove the selected players from the list. Using Edit>Cut or Edit>Copy and then pasting into another Master Player Window will move or duplicate the player information.
You can also Edit>Cut or Edit>Copy players from a Master Players window and paste the information into another application. The data is copied to the clipboard in WK1 and DIF spreadsheet formats, as well as in tab-delimited text format. So, if you paste the information into a spreadsheet program, you will get a table of information with each piece of data (e.g., player names, ID's, ratings, etc.) in its own cell, allowing you to do your own sorts or formatted reports. Most applications also offer a Paste Special operation that allows you to choose the format. Or, paste into applications such as text-editors, word-processors, or e-mail programs for formatting and distributing reports, creating mailing lists, etc. See Export for an alternative method of exporting information.
