Samples / Samples: Pairing Sheets |
Here are two sample pairing sheets with descriptions. See How To: Print a Pairing Sheet for help on printing pairing sheets. Note that WinTD can print three different types of "pairing sheets:" the board by board results sheets (sorted in board order), and pairing lists alphabetized by player or alphabetized by team. The last two are identical except for sorting order. (In the Preferences dialog, these last two are called "pairing lists.")
Example One—Pairing List Sorted by Player Name
Fantasy World Championship -- World Champions Playoff - Round 3
Player Color/Board Opponent
Alekhine, Alexander (EUROPE)......W 102 Smislov, Vassily (5,SOVIET,2685)
Botvinnik, Mikhail (SOVIET).......W 101 Capablanca, Jose R (2,WEST,2740)
Capablanca, Jose R (WEST).........B 101 Botvinnik, Mikhail (1,SOVIET,2740)
Euwe, Max (EUROPE)................BYE PLEASE WAIT
Smislov, Vassily (SOVIET).........B 102 Alekhine, Alexander (3,EUROPE,2710)
Find your name in the left column. If you are Alexander Alekhine, this tells you that you are to play White on Board 102 against Vassily Smislov. That is the part that really matters. In parentheses after each name is some additional information about your opponent which you might find useful. In this example, it shows that Smislov has pairing number 5, is from the team SOVIET and has a rating of 2685. Your tournament director may have chosen to show slightly different information on this list.
Note that none of the numbers within ( ) are board numbers. Please read your color and board from the Color/Board column in the middle of the page.
Example Two—Pairing Sheet Sorted by Board Number:
Fantasy World Championship -- World Champions Playoff - Round 3
Board White Black
101. ___ Botvinnik, Mikhail (1.5,SOVIET) ___ Capablanca, Jose R (2.0,WEST)
102. ___ Alekhine, Alexander (1.0,EUROPE) ___ Smislov, Vassily (1.5,SOVIET)
1.0 Euwe, Max (0.0,EUROPE) PLEASE WAIT
Board 101 has Mikhail Botvinnik playing White against Jose Capablanca. Board 102 has Alexander Alekhine playing White against Vassily Smislov. Max Euwe has received a bye for this round. This might be formatted to have boxes around the cells, but otherwise the information is the same.
In parentheses after each name is some additional information about your opponent which you might find useful. In this example, it shows that Botvinnik has 1.5 points going into this round and is a member of the team SOVIET. Your tournament director may have chosen to show slightly different information on this list. (Pairing numbers and/or ratings can also be displayed).
Note that your board number is in the first column on the page. If you are listed on the left, you play White; if you are listed on the right, you play Black.
