Getting Started / Getting Started: The WinTD Interface / Data Window |
A Data Window is a table from a spreadsheet or similar database file. WinTD only allows very limited manipulations of these at this time. You cannot create a blank Data Window using WinTD—you need to create the file first, then use Data>Open Data Table.
At this time, Data Windows are used to provide data on money prizes, to compute cumulative points over a number of tournaments or to manage the list of recipients for e-mailing or texting pairings.
Export
You can use the File>Export operation to export information from a Data Window to a new file in comma- or tab-delimited text, WKS, Excel (XLS or XLSX) or HTML formats.
Cut/Copy/Paste/Clear
Only Edit>Copy operates on Data Windows. Edit>Copy can be used to copy information from a Data Window paste the information into another application. The data are copied to the clipboard in WK1 and DIF spreadsheet formats, as well as in tab-delimited text format. So, if you paste the information into a spreadsheet program, you will get a table of information with each piece of data in its own cell. Most other applications offer a Paste Special operation that allows you to choose the format. See File>Export... for an alternative method of exporting information.
When a Data Window is active, WinTD displays the following icons in the toolbar:
Saves the data to a spreadsheet or text file. Equivalent to File>Save As. |

Selects all the cells in the Data Window. Equivalent to Edit>Select All. |
Copies to selected content to the clipboard for pasting into another application. Equivalent to Edit>Copy. |
