How To: Enter Non-matching Results

Home Page

← Previous Next →

Occasionally, you may need to enter "non-matching" scores for a game. Perhaps one player won a game on forfeit over a player who, it turns out, was supposed to have received a half point bye. Maybe you have made a judgment call that a player who is unable to finish a game due to sudden illness, but who had an easily won game when forced to quit, should not be given a "played" loss. (Note: Don't do this for adjourned games. See How To: Adjourn Games).

In our first example, you could just delete the game and give one player a full point bye and the other a half point bye. However, it is probably safer to keep your "audit trail" in good shape and put in the results as they actually occurred: a forfeit win for one player for his record and a half-point bye for the other for hers. To do this,

1.Create or switch to a Games Window which includes the game. (You can either get a list of all games in the round, or just a list for one of the players).

2.Select the game and use the operation Games>Split Results.

This will give you two almost identical lines in the Games window. The only difference (at this point) is that in one of the lines, one of the players will have a << after his name field, while in the other line, the other player is so marked. This shows which game record counts for each player. You can now put in the desired pair of results by double-clicking on each game in turn.

If, instead, you want to replace one of the games with a bye, select the game record where the player to receive the bye is marked with <<. Delete this record using Edit>Clear. (The other game record will still be there). Assign the bye as you would normally. (How To: Assign Byes).

Once a game has been "split," it cannot be "glued" back together other than by using Edit>Undo. Obviously, you can achieve the same effect by just making sure that the results match up. But if you have deleted one of the two records and it turns out that you want to restore the original situation, delete both the current game records and enter the game manually (How To: Pair Players Manually).
