How To: Redo Pairings |
You may occasionally need to redo the pairings of the games in a tournament section. In most cases, you should be able to just use Edit>Undo to get back to the point where you did the pairings, make whatever corrections are required, then pair again. (Note that if you Undo and then make a change, the Redo stack is no longer available. You have to do the operations over again).
However, if you have made some fairly significant changes since pairing the round, you probably won't want to use undo because you would also undo those later changes as well. There are several alternatives to using Undo depending upon how extensive the changes need to be.
Complete Re-Pairing
Select the section in the Sections Window, and use Section>Reset to Earlier Round... and choose the round before the one that you want to re-pair; that is, if you want to re-pair round 4, reset to round 3. This will delete the round 4 games, including any forced bye but not requested byes. It will also not delete any withdrawals that you have processed. You need to make sure that you check that the changes that you needed to make prior to the re-pair are in place. (For instance, if a half-point bye was incorrectly given, make sure you delete it first since requested byes aren't removed by the reset process.
Partial Re-Pairing
1.From a Games Window, select the games you need to pair over again. You need to be careful about this, as (for instance), removing a single player will generally require a re-pair from the score group of that player down to the end. See How To: Display a List of Games if you need help creating the proper Games Window.
2.Choose the Edit>Clear operation. This will clear the pairings and delete the games from the Games Window.
3.Make the changes which will allow you to pair the round correctly. The most common error is having a player who needs to be checked in or out. See How To: Check Players In or Out. If you have to force a pairing first, see How To: Pair Players Manually.
4.Do the Section>Pair a Round operation to redo the pairings.Make sure that the round number field in the Pair a Round dialog box shows the correct round. If you deleted all the games, WinTD will reset this correctly, but if some games were left, the dialog box will show the next round.
If you cleared only some of the games, WinTD will keep the board numbers of the undeleted games, and fit any new games into the open boards.
