The following operations are available from the File menu.
New Tournament...
Creates a new tournament. This brings up the Tournament Info dialog box, which allows you to set options for the tournament. After you supply this information, WinTD will display a new (empty) Sections Window associated with this tournament. Use Save or Save As... to save the information to a tournament file.
Open Tournament...
Opens an existing tournament file, displaying the contents in a Sections Window.
Recent Files...
Pulls right to displays a list of recently used files. You can reopen any of these files by selecting the filename from the list.
Close
Closes the active window.
Save window type
Saves the contents of the active window to a file. If there is no file associated with the window, you will be prompted to enter a filename. Otherwise, changes will be saved to the current file. Because Game and Player Windows are part of a tournament, using Save and Save As... with a Players or Games window active will always save the complete tournament.
Save window type As...
Prompts you for a filename and saves the contents of the active window to disk.
Save Tournament to XML...
If a tournament Section Window is active, this operation will allow you to save the tournament information as an XML file. This will allow you to use an external XML parsing program to pull data out of the tournament without having to know the internal structure of the WinTD files. For any other type of window, this won't appear and is replaced by the Export operation.
Export...
Exports the information in the active Players, Games, Master(Player), Master(Team), Report or Data window to a new file in one of several formats: such as comma-and-quote delimited text, tab-delimited text, HTML (web table), spreadsheet (Lotus WKS or Excel XLS or XLSX). Use the "Save file as type" field in the Export dialog box to select the desired format. If you select HTML, WinTD exports the data as a simple HTML table. Note that for many window types, you can use Change Layout... on the Edit menu to control the appearance and contents of the window, and then use Export... to export the information as it appears in the window.
Edit Tournament Information...
Displays the Tournament Info dialog box for the active tournament. This allows you to view or change the tournament name and date, and the ordering of tie breakers.
Save As Template...
This operation saves the sections in the current tournament (and their options) to a new file, but does not save the players and games. This will allow you to save time setting up other tournaments that will have the same or similar basic structure. To use the template, just do File-Open to open the template file, edit the tournament information (using File-Edit Information) and, if necessary, add, delete or modify sections. You'll probably want to use File-Save As... to save the tournament under a new name (to preserve your template), and then you'll be ready to start entering players.
Copy Tournament to...
Copies the active tournament to another file. This is your best choice for backing up a tournament, as (unlike Save Tournament As...), it doesn't change which file is active.
Extract Sections to...
If you want to use multiple computers to run the tournament, you can use Extract Sections to... to create a file containing the selected section(s). You can then use that file on a separate machine to run those sections. Use the Include Sections from... to merge results back into the original file. See Using More than One Computer for details.
Include Sections from...
When running WinTD on multiple computers, use Include Sections from... to pull active sections from one file into another. See Using More than One Computer for details.
Include from Listed Files...
As an alternative to using Include Sections from..., which imports sections from a single tournament file, you can also create a text file listing the names of multiple tournament files, and do Include from Listed Files... to import active sections from all the files in the list. See Using More than One Computer for details.
User Directory...
Brings up a dialog box allowing you to change the default directory for tournament and other files.
Recent Directories...
Pulls right to list the most recently used directories for WinTD files. Selecting one will make it the current default user directory.
Manage Preference Sets...
(On the Macintosh, this is on the WinTD menu instead of the File menu).
Use this operation to manage Preference Sets. You can load a saved preference set from disk, save your current preferences as a preference file, and control which preference set will loaded automatically when you start he program. The Manage Preference Sets dialog box also gives you access to the same Preferences dialog box described above, and allows you to set the styles available for Player, Game, and Team Windows (the same styles accessed by doing Edit-Change Layout).
Properties...
Displays a dialog with a bit more detail on the name and source of a file or window than will fit in the title bar.
Exit
(On the Macintosh, this is called Quit and is on the WinTD menu).
Exits the WinTD program. You will be given the opportunity to save any changes.
