How To: Add/Edit Players in a Master Player File

Home Page

← Previous Next →

See Master Player Files for some general tips about the use of these files.

Open or create a master player file, using either Master(Player)>Open Master List... or Master(Player)>New Master List...

If Team ID's are important to your tournaments, we would recommend that you open your Team File first, and if you need to, add any new teams to it. (See How To: Add/Edit Teams). If a Team Window is open, you can select a team name from the Team List tab in the Add/Edit a Player dialog. If you don't know the team code, search for it in the scrolling list, and double-click on it when you find it.

Using the Add/Edit Dialog

To add a new player, select Master(Player)>Add a Player (the Master Player Window must be active). To edit an existing player, double click on the player's line in the window. Enter the relevant information in the Add/Edit A Player dialog box. You can enter all the information manually, or, you can use the US Chess database or FIDE database to fill in some of the fields if you have it.

If you are adding players, after you click on OK, WinTD will bring up another Add/Edit a Player dialog box allowing you to add another player. When you are done adding players (after entering the last player's info and hitting OK), click on the Cancel button in the next Add a Player dialog box.

Copying Players from a Tournament File

You can also copy players from an open tournament file: Create (or go to) a tournament Players Window (How To: Display a List of Players). From this, select the players you wish to add to your master file and drag and drop them to the Master Players Window. That is, put the mouse pointer on the selected block of players, click and hold the button, and drag the mouse until the pointer is over the Master Players Window. Release the mouse button, and WinTD will copy the players to the master file.

From an External Data/Spreadsheet File

You can use the Master(Player)>Import Data File... operation to import players from text or spreadsheet files into a Master file. See How To: Import Players.

Making Identical Changes to Many Players

If you need to make identical changes to a whole set of players (such as changing their team ID's or club ID's), select them and use the Edit>Change Common Info... menu operation. For the specific task of updating grades in the "Prize Group" fields, there's a special Master(Player)>Update Grades operation for that, which will add 1 to any numerical values in that field (and will replace a "K" with 1).
