How To: Add Players to a Tournament

You can add players to a tournament by:

•adding new players directly to the tournament file

•adding them from a Master Player Window by dragging and dropping, or

•adding them from a Master Player Window using menu operations, or

•adding them from a Player Window of an old tournament file by dragging and dropping

•importing them from a list on a spreadsheet or text file

If you have players who likely will be participating in several of your tournaments, we would recommend the use of Master Player Files. If you add the players directly to the tournament file, you can later drag and drop them into a master player file.

To add players to a tournament, you must have the tournament file open, and the tournament must contain at least one section. See Setting Up and Running a Tournament for these initial steps.

Adding New Players Directly to a Tournament File

1.If Team ID's are important to your tournament, we would recommend that you open/create your Team File first, and if you need to, add any new teams to it. (See How To: Add/Edit Teams)

2.Choose the Players⎯Add a Player operation.

3.Enter the necessary information in the Add/Edit A Player dialog box and hit OK to add the player. Make sure that you select the correct section in the scrolling list at the bottom left.

4.WinTD will automatically pop up a new box. Add the next player. Push the Cancel button in the dialog box when you are done adding players.

Adding from a Master Player File by Dragging and Dropping

To add players to a particular section, you can drag players from the Master Player window onto a section in the Sections Window, or to a Players Window associated with that section (How To: Display a List of Players).

1.Arrange the Master Player Window and the target window (either the Sections Window, or the Players Window for the target section) so you can see both windows on the screen (using Window⎯Tile Horizontal, for example).

2.Go to the Master Player Window and select the player or players you want to add to the tournament.

3.Point the mouse cursor at one of the highlighted players and press and hold the mouse button.

4.Drag the cursor onto the target section in the Sections Window, or to anywhere on the Players Window for that section, and release the mouse button. The selected players will be added to the section.

Adding From a Master Player File Using Menu Operations

1.Select a section (just one!) by single-clicking on the section name in the Sections Window.

2.Go to the Master Player Window (use Master(Player)-Open Master List... if you need to open a master player file).

3.From the window, select the player or players you want to add to the tournament.

4.Choose the Master(Player)⎯Add to section operation, where section is the name of the section currently highlighted in the Sections Window. The selected player(s) will be added to that section.

5.Repeat steps 1 through 4 as needed.

Adding from an Old Tournament File by Dragging and Dropping

This is almost identical to dragging and dropping out of a master player file. Just open a player window for the old tournament, and a target window (either the Sections Window or a Players Window associated with that section). Select the players you want in the old tournament window, and drop them onto either the desired section in the Sections Window of the new tournament, or the desired Players window.
