How To: Move a Player to a New Section |
How messy this is depends upon when you catch the error.
You Haven't Run Pairings Yet
This is simple. You can either
1.Create or go to a Players Window for the section to which the player is assigned now. (How To: Display a List of Players).
2.Click on the player's name. Hold the mouse down and drag it over the Players Window for the correct section, or over the correct section in the Sections Window (this is called a drag-and-drop). Let go of the mouse. The player will be transferred,
or,
1.Double-click on the line for the player in the Players Window. This pops up the Add/Edit a Player dialog box. Select the correct section in the scrolling list in the Tournament Info tab and click OK.
WinTD won't let you do this if the player has any games assigned to her, which is why the remaining situations require extra steps.
You've Run Pairings and are Willing to Rerun Them
1.If Edit>Undo will work to undo the pairings (that is, if there were no critical intervening operations since you paired the sections), use it to back up until before you ran pairings. Skip to step 4.
2.If you can't use Edit>Undo, open up Games Windows for the two sections involved. You actually can select both sections in the Sections Window and use the operation Section>List Games, Combined Sections to get them in a single window.
3.Select all the games and do Edit>Clear to delete them.
4.Move the player as described above.
5.Pair the sections again. Make sure that the Round to Pair box is set correctly in the Pair a Round dialog box.
You've Run Pairings and Aren't Willing to Rerun Them
If you are willing to let the game be played as paired, skip to the next paragraph. Otherwise,
1.Open up the Games Window for the section including the incorrect player. Locate the game involving her. Select it and do Edit>Clear to delete it.
2.Move the player as described above.
3.You now have at least one unmatched player in both of the sections. To give them byes, see How To: Assign Byes. If you want to re-match them with players in their own sections, see How To: Correct Pairings and How To: Pair Players Manually.
She's Already Played a Game
Yikes! This is the procedure to follow if you're willing to let the current game stand for the other player (typically because our player was mistakenly in a higher section than she should have been).
1.Create or go to a Players Window for the incorrect section. (How To: Display a List of Players).
2.Select the player. Use the operation Players>Re-enter Tournament. In the dialog box, select the correct section. The player will have an inactive entry in the old section and an active one in the new section.
3.At this point, the player will be getting 0 points in her new section for the rounds already paired. To credit her with full or partial credit for the early round game(s), see How To: Assign Byes.
On the other hand, if the player was incorrectly put into a lower section, it really isn't fair if the opponent lost to a player who shouldn't have been in his section. This gets much more complicated, because the game is listed in the wrong section. Follow the procedure described in How To: Create Additional Rated Games. After you have cleared the game(s) played, you can move the player to the correct section. Make sure that you give each player the bye credit you deem appropriate for the round(s) played.
