Getting Started / Getting Started: The WinTD Menus / Master(Player) Menu |
The following operations are available from the Master (Player) menu. Most are only enabled if a Master Player Window is the active window.
New Master List...
Creates a new Master Player File. This will bring up the Master Player Setup dialog. You will be able to choose whether to use the Legacy (ppl) or Zipped JSON (pplz) format. For the newer format, you will have a choice of what "features" to include and what ratings are meant by the "main" and "second/local" rating fields. Note that you can transform a Legacy format to the new zipped JSON format, but not the other way around. While the legacy format master files are usable, we would strongly recommend that you do all new files using the new format.
The file will initially be given a NONAMExx name (with either the pplz or ppl format, depending upon which you choose). You will give it a name and location when you save it (File>Save or File>Save As) or close it.
Open Master List...
Opens an existing Master Player File and displays the contents in a new window.
Edit Setup...
This allows you to view or edit the setup of an existing Master Player file. It does this by popping up the Master Player Setup dialog. Note that you cannot change the format using this—if you want to save an old format file to the new format, open the old one, then so File>Save As and pick the new format as the target.
Add a Player
Adds a player to the active master player file. This brings up the Add/Edit A Player dialog box.
Add to section
Adds players from the Master Player Window to a tournament section. To use this operation, you must first:
1.Select (highlight) a section from the active Sections Window, and
2.Select one or more players from a Master Player Window
Doing Add to section will add the selected players to the selected tournament section. Note that menu operation will reflect the name of the current tournament section. For example, if the selected section is "High-School" the menu operation will read Add to High-School.
See How To: Add Players to a Tournament for other (and often simpler) ways to add players from a master file into your tournament.
Update from Tournament
For players in the active master player file who are entered in a tournament, this computes updated local ratings for those players using the results of the active tournament. See Local Ratings for details.
Update Grades
Looks at the "Prize Group" field, and if it finds numbers, this increments them by one. It will also convert a K (for kindergarten) to the number 1.
Generate Local IDs
This allows you to generate unique "local" ID's for players who are new to your master file and don't have ID's in the system. (These are specially designed to not be confused with the numeric ID schemes used by US Chess or FIDE).
Import Data File...
This allows you to import player information into WinTD from a tab-delimited text, comma-delimited text, Excel (XLS or XLSX) or Lotus WKS format file.
Convert SwisSys Club File...
This imports players from a SwisSys™ club file into a WinTD master player file. Note that WinTD master files include some fields not present in SwisSys club files, and vice versa. Thus you should review the imported records and add or edit information as needed.
