If you run "combined" team/individual tournaments, where individuals compete against each other, and team standings are based on the overall results of the team members, you will probably find it convenient to store team information in a master team file. Team files store the team abbreviation (the team ID used to calculate team results), the full team name (used for labeling team standings reports) and information for contacting the coach or head: address, phone number, etc.
Please note the team file information is not used in true "team" tournaments, where pairings are done on a team-by-team basis. See Team Tournaments for details on both combined and team tournaments.
The information from a team file is displayed in a Team Window. By default, this only shows basic information about the team. However, you can use the Edit-Change Layout to change what is displayed. You could, for instance, show the addresses in order to generate a mailing list.
To create a new Team File, use the Master(Teams)-New Team List... operation. To open an existing file, use Master(Teams)-Open Team List... Before you start putting in team information, it probably would be a good idea to figure out a system for assigning abbreviations. You have six characters to play with. Obviously, each team needs a unique abbreviation, and you also would like them to be as informative as possible. See How To: Add/Edit Teams for a description of the actual process of putting information onto the team file.
If you are running a combined tournament, it is very useful to have your Team File open during the time you are directing the tournament. We usually minimize the window when not in use. This will add a Team List tab to the Add/Edit a Player Dialog Box so you can quickly locate the team code if it wasn't known. This also allows WinTD to print the teams' full names on team standings.
If you already have a team list in another format (such as a text file or spreadsheet), you can use Master(Teams)-Convert Data File to convert the data into WinTD's format.
