The following operations are available from the Section menu.

Pair a Round

Pairs a round for the selected section(s) of the tournament. This brings up the Pair a Round dialog box.

Update Scores/Standings

Updates the scores for the selected section. WinTD does not automatically update the point totals and standings displayed in open Player Windows each time you enter a game result (to do so might cause system gridlock if a number of windows had to be rewritten frequently). So, if you want to make sure you are looking at up-to-date scores and standings, you can use Update Scores/Standings. This will recompute point totals and tie breaks and update any open Players Windows accordingly. Note that WinTD does update the displayed scores whenever you do operations such as pairing a round, printing a cross table, or printing a prize list, since these are normally done either after all scores are in, or before any scores have been entered.

Assign Pairing Numbers

Automatically assigns pairing numbers to players in the selected section(s)—see Pairing Numbers for details on how WinTD assigns pairing numbers to players. Note that the Pair a Round operation will automatically assign pairing numbers if necessary. Pair a Round will also re-assign pairing numbers if you have added or removed a player from a section, or changed a player's rating. You can use this operation if you want to print pre-tournament reports.

Manual Pairing Numbers...

For round robin and Scheveningen tournaments, pairing numbers are not based upon ratings, but are assigned "randomly." You may find it desirable to force a particular set of pairing numbers on one of these so you can have greater control over the schedule. (Or, in the case of a Round Robin, the schedule may already have been set, and you need to force the program to match it). If you choose this operation, the Manual Pairing Numbers dialog box will be displayed. Note that a manual change to the pairing numbers will have no effect on pairing styles other than round robin and Scheveningen.

Enter Manual Pairing...

Allows you to manually pair one or more games in the selected section—this brings up the Manual Pairing dialog box. Note that this can only be used with one section at a time. See How To: Correct Pairings for other ways to get to the same dialog.

Compute Approx Ratings

This computes approximate post-event ratings for the players in the selected section(s). To view the computed ratings, you'll need to display a players window that includes the "Post rate" column (see Edit>Change Layout).

List Players

Displays a list of the players in the selected section in a new Players Window. Use Edit>Change Layout to control how this list is organized. If you have more than one section selected, this opens a separate Players Window for each section. The toolbar icon does the same operation.

List Players-Combined Sections

Same as above, but displays the players from all of the selected sections in a single Players Window. This list can be very useful for processing check-ins and withdrawals.

List Games-Current Round

Lists all the games for the current round in the selected section in a new Games Window. If you have more than one section selected, this opens a separate Games Window for each section. You'll need to open a Games Window when you are ready to Print Pairing Sheets or Enter Game Results. The  toolbar icon does the same operation.

List Games-Combined Sections

Same as above, but displays the games from all of the selected sections in a single Games Window. This is useful for printing a combined pairing list across sections.

List Games-Specific Round

This allows you to create a game window for any round. If you request a round beyond the end of the round currently paired, WinTD will ask if this round has been paired manually. If so, answer yes and the program will update its records.

List All Games-RR Table Order

This creates a Games Window especially designed for transcribing game scores from a completed round robin table. It shows the entire schedule, with the lower pairing number always shown on the left side. If you read the top half (the part above the diagonal) of a round robin cross table row by row, that is the order in which the games are presented in this format.

List Team Members

If the only section selected is a Team vs Team section, this generates a player list of the members of the teams.

Add...

Adds a new section to the active tournament. See Add/Edit a Section dialog box for details.

Delete

Deletes the selected section(s) from the active tournament. You can only delete a section if no players are assigned to it. To delete a section that does contain players, you'll first need to either delete those players from the section (through a Players window), or else move those players to another section (by using Sections>Merge, by dragging and dropping them from a Players window, or by using the Players>Re-enter Tournament operation). If you are trying to delete a section to create a tournament file which includes only certain other sections, the way to do that is with File>Extract Sections To... on the desired sections.

Merge...

Moves players from one or more sections into another section. This is generally used as part of a Multiple Schedule tournament.

Divide Up...

This is a quick way to divide up a section into several smaller sections, like quads or octos.

Assign Board Numbers...

Allows you to automatically assign the starting board numbers to a set of sections.

Import Players...

Imports players from an external spreadsheet or text file. Note that this import isn't really restricted to a single section. Based upon the section import tags, it can assign players to any sections.

Import Cross Table...

Imports players and games from a completed cross table on a spreadsheet or text file.

Reset to Earlier Round...

Deletes all games and assigned byes (but not requested byes) later than a selected round to allow a re-pair.
